Narrative:
Level at FL270 on a vector from ZLA, looking for FL350 but held for traffic at FL280, 3 O'clock position. Center advises to go direct hector, at which time I began left turn. Altitude hold disconnected and I inadvertently drifted up 400 ft, at which time my partner called 'altitude.' immediately returned to FL270. Center asked altitude and I replied FL270.
