Narrative:
Flight from syr to jfk landed at XA55 on runway 22L in touchdown zone. Rolled out to taxiway J using minimal beta/reverse or braking to slow because of runway length available to decelerate. Upon exiting highspd taxiway J, low hydraulic pressure sensor failed to activate main accumulator hydraulic pump, resulting in loss of tiller (nosewheel steering) and brake control, respectively. Performed memory item for 'brake failure at low speed,' which selects hydraulic pump to override. However, due to recovery time, the aircraft left the taxiway confines into adjacent paved area before system recovery occurred. Returned aircraft to taxiway. Remainder of taxi was uneventful. No aircraft damage or personal injury resulted. Notified maintenance and aircraft was taken OTS.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: AN SF340 LEAVES THE CONFINES OF THE HIGH SPD TXWY AT JFK WHEN THE CAPT LOSES CTL OF THE ACFT. THE BRAKING AND NOSEWHEEL STEERING WAS LOST DUE TO A FAULTY MAIN HYD SYS PRESSURE SENSOR THAT ALLOWED A LOSS OF HYD PRESSURE TO SAID ITEMS.
Narrative: FLT FROM SYR TO JFK LANDED AT XA55 ON RWY 22L IN TOUCHDOWN ZONE. ROLLED OUT TO TXWY J USING MINIMAL BETA/REVERSE OR BRAKING TO SLOW BECAUSE OF RWY LENGTH AVAILABLE TO DECELERATE. UPON EXITING HIGHSPD TXWY J, LOW HYD PRESSURE SENSOR FAILED TO ACTIVATE MAIN ACCUMULATOR HYD PUMP, RESULTING IN LOSS OF TILLER (NOSEWHEEL STEERING) AND BRAKE CTL, RESPECTIVELY. PERFORMED MEMORY ITEM FOR 'BRAKE FAILURE AT LOW SPD,' WHICH SELECTS HYD PUMP TO OVERRIDE. HOWEVER, DUE TO RECOVERY TIME, THE ACFT LEFT THE TXWY CONFINES INTO ADJACENT PAVED AREA BEFORE SYS RECOVERY OCCURRED. RETURNED ACFT TO TXWY. REMAINDER OF TAXI WAS UNEVENTFUL. NO ACFT DAMAGE OR PERSONAL INJURY RESULTED. NOTIFIED MAINT AND ACFT WAS TAKEN OTS.
