Narrative:
Flaps 8 degrees required for takeoff. First officer had set 11 degrees. Informed him during taxi out and he reset using dial-a- flap. Responding to speed brake callout on before checklist, momentarily moved throttles and no aural warnings. Flaps were set 8/8/8 for takeoff. At 90 KTS on to roll, flaps warning sounded. Aborted takeoff. During taxi back noticed flaps indicated 6 degrees. On checking flap handle, found that handle not in detent. Reviewed procedures with new first officer and reset flaps after returning flaps to 0 degrees.
