Narrative:

While not paying attention, I taxied onto the active runway. I thought it was a taxiway. The nearest plane, to my knowledge, was more than 1 mi away. I was only on the runway for about 30 seconds. No one noticed until advised ground of my position, and that I was getting off in a hurry, and that I was sorry. This was my first trip to this airport as PIC, and the layout placed the runway so close to parking that I just assumed it was a taxiway. My lack of experience (85 hours) and my not paying enough attention in an unfamiliar setting contributed to my error. My training, however, did cause me to check both ways for traffic, so no other aircraft was endangered.
