Narrative:

Nearing a holding fix, I descended below parameters of altitude for the check ride. Examiner declared the check ride over and assumed command of aircraft. Aircraft continued to descend to 2500 ft MSL. ATC advised of traffic approaching at 2000 ft. Examiner requested a turn, received it and climbed aircraft back to 3000 ft. Upon reaching VMC, local IFR clearance was canceled. No conflict reported to us by ATC. My lack of instrument scan while setting up for the hold entry initiated the event.

Title: APCHING A HOLDING FIX, THE PLT DSNDED BELOW THE HOLDING ALT. THE EXAMINER ASSUMED COMMAND BUT CONTINUED TO DSND AND WAS ADVISED OF APCHING TFC BY ATC BEFORE INITIATING A CLBING TURN BACK TO HOLDING ALT. THEY THEN ENTERED VMC CONDITIONS AND CANCELED THEIR IFR CLRNC.

MY LACK OF INST SCAN WHILE SETTING UP FOR THE HOLD ENTRY INITIATED THE EVENT.
