Narrative:

On descent into mmcu I was cleared to 10000 ft MSL. ATC pointed out traffic at our 1 O'clock position and 9000 ft. We said that we had the traffic in sight. The controller then said that we could descend with visual separation with the traffic. We estimated the position of the traffic to be about 4 SM away. As we descended through his altitude, he reported that his TCASII gave him an RA. I did not give this much concern because I thought he was under the knowledge that I was operating on visual separation standards. I think that the language barrier (I was speaking english and the saab, spanish) and ATC's failure to notify the saab crew of our position and intentions contributed to the confusion.

Title: A DSNDING ATX JET SETS OFF AN SF340'S TCASII WHEN IT PASSES THROUGH THE SF340'S ALT. THE ATX WAS ON A VISUAL SEPARATION DSCNT, 4 MI FROM THE SF340.

Narrative: ON DSCNT INTO MMCU I WAS CLRED TO 10000 FT MSL. ATC POINTED OUT TFC AT OUR 1 O'CLOCK POS AND 9000 FT. WE SAID THAT WE HAD THE TFC IN SIGHT. THE CTLR THEN SAID THAT WE COULD DSND WITH VISUAL SEPARATION WITH THE TFC. WE ESTIMATED THE POS OF THE TFC TO BE ABOUT 4 SM AWAY. AS WE DSNDED THROUGH HIS ALT, HE RPTED THAT HIS TCASII GAVE HIM AN RA. I DID NOT GIVE THIS MUCH CONCERN BECAUSE I THOUGHT HE WAS UNDER THE KNOWLEDGE THAT I WAS OPERATING ON VISUAL SEPARATION STANDARDS. I THINK THAT THE LANGUAGE BARRIER (I WAS SPEAKING ENGLISH AND THE SAAB, SPANISH) AND ATC'S FAILURE TO NOTIFY THE SAAB CREW OF OUR POS AND INTENTIONS CONTRIBUTED TO THE CONFUSION.
