Narrative:
At approximately FL180, 58 DME from lax on the civet 4 profile into lax (ILS frequency 109.9, 249 degree radial for a runway 25L runway landing) descending, #2 engine would not develop normal thrust. #2 engine fuel flow would not go above 400 pounds per hour with any throttle movement. Continuous ignition selected. Flight attendant 'prepare for landing' was given. Given that we were in descent, weighing 315000 pounds with both #1 and #3 engines developing normal thrust, our condition presented no unusual problems. At approximately 28 DME at 14000 ft MSL, all tank fuel boost pumps operating, we noted a zero fuel flow on #2 engine. No response to throttle movement. #2 generator light appeared. Precautionary engine shutdown checklist accomplished, 2 engine approach and landing, go around notes reviewed. #2 engine secured. Aircraft electrical system integrity normal and monitored. Normal landing to runway 25L lax subsequently assured and accomplished. Callback conversation with reporter revealed the following information: the reporter stated the loss of power on #2 engine was caused by a main fuel control failure.
