Narrative:
After a normal engine start, taxied to runway 21R at dtw, performing all before takeoff checklist items. After receiving takeoff clearance, we used reduced power as previously briefed. On takeoff roll, at approximately 125 KIAS, we heard a loud bang, accompanied by heavy vibration of unknown origin. Aborted takeoff (gross weight 411000 pounds) initiated by the captain. Aircraft successfully stopped on the remaining runway. First officer notified tower of abort and requested emergency equipment and advised passenger to remain seated. Tower called and reported that aircraft Y crew reported smoke and flame coming from #3 engine. Captain and myself then completed engine shutdown and checklists. Discharged fire extinguisher. Fire and rescue teams arrived promptly and soon reported the aircraft and scene safe. Captain requested a tow back to the gate, and that 1 fire truck remain with the aircraft until we reached the gate, and everyone had deplaned. The aircraft was towed to the gate, and everyone deplaned without further incident.
