Narrative:

I was climbing the lear jet to their requested altitude and didn't realize that it would be a conflict with the MD80. I was trying too hard to accommodate the requested altitude. Don't put aircraft safety in jeopardy to accommodate pilot requests. The aircraft were opposite direction and the climbing aircraft should have been stopped beneath the aircraft at cruise altitude.
