Narrative:

Sjn 2 departure requires a right turn at the pxr VOR 9 DME. We missed the turn and continued runway heading until prompted by departure control. Probable cause -- distraction from TCASII display of traffic off parallel runway and last second and unusual altitude assignment to 'maintain 5000 ft' by ATC, and failure of PNF to xchk. Supplemental information from acn 419262: were told to keep aircraft that departed before us in sight. At about 4 or 5 DME, received a TA from TCASII -- it was parallel traffic from runway 26L. About 7 DME, were asked to maintain 5000 ft (as opposed to 8000 ft on SID). Kept traffic off runway 26L in sight, traffic in front in sight. Leveled at 5000 ft and I flew through the 9 DME fix where the SID calls for a turn to 360 degrees. Departure controller caught it about 12 DME and gave us a heading back to rejoin SID. I let myself be distraction by the intermediate leveloff and traffic, lost my situational awareness on the SID.

Title: A DEP B757 LEVELS OFF AT 5000 FT ON THE SJN 2 SID DEP PROC FROM PHX AND THE CREW FAILS TO TURN TO 360 DEGS AT THE 9 DME. CREW CITES OTHER TFC WATCH AS CONTRIBUTORY.

Narrative: SJN 2 DEP REQUIRES A R TURN AT THE PXR VOR 9 DME. WE MISSED THE TURN AND CONTINUED RWY HDG UNTIL PROMPTED BY DEP CTL. PROBABLE CAUSE -- DISTR FROM TCASII DISPLAY OF TFC OFF PARALLEL RWY AND LAST SECOND AND UNUSUAL ALT ASSIGNMENT TO 'MAINTAIN 5000 FT' BY ATC, AND FAILURE OF PNF TO XCHK. SUPPLEMENTAL INFO FROM ACN 419262: WERE TOLD TO KEEP ACFT THAT DEPARTED BEFORE US IN SIGHT. AT ABOUT 4 OR 5 DME, RECEIVED A TA FROM TCASII -- IT WAS PARALLEL TFC FROM RWY 26L. ABOUT 7 DME, WERE ASKED TO MAINTAIN 5000 FT (AS OPPOSED TO 8000 FT ON SID). KEPT TFC OFF RWY 26L IN SIGHT, TFC IN FRONT IN SIGHT. LEVELED AT 5000 FT AND I FLEW THROUGH THE 9 DME FIX WHERE THE SID CALLS FOR A TURN TO 360 DEGS. DEP CTLR CAUGHT IT ABOUT 12 DME AND GAVE US A HDG BACK TO REJOIN SID. I LET MYSELF BE DISTR BY THE INTERMEDIATE LEVELOFF AND TFC, LOST MY SITUATIONAL AWARENESS ON THE SID.
