Narrative:

While flying with a new hire first officer, I was letting him fly the empty legs. We were on a night visual approach. We were told to hold 170 KTS to the marker. This caused him to be rushed. This first officer is from a foreign country and has trouble understanding my instructions. We started to go below the GS. I told him we were low. He did not adjust our descent. I again told him we were low. I then took the aircraft and adjusted our descent. I let a dangerous situation develop because I did not want to hurt his pride. I should have taken control sooner and then talk about it on the ground.
