Narrative:
On descent into srq from orl we were cleared to 5000 ft. During descent we got a hot battery warning. We were distraction in dealing with that problem and the autoplt did not capture altitude. The altitude alerter caught our attention as we went below assigned altitude. We went 600 ft low before arresting the descent and starting recovery to 5000 ft and were immediately cleared to lower. No comments from ATC. 99% of altitude excursions are usually distrs or lack of concentration on doing what we are supposed to be doing - - flying the airplane. Very frustrating!
