Narrative:
I was flying the ILS runway 19L at night, low level windshear reported, light rain. On short final, after receiving landing clearance, the first officer somehow changed the communication radio frequency selector from tower to ground. After landing, we were holding short of runway 19R when ground control told us to contact tower. I was surprised we weren't still with tower. Anyway, sfo tower made it clear they were unhappy with our untimely frequency change, which I completely understand. Fortunately, there were no conflicts or problems created. The first officer and I had a talk on priorities during an approach, especially a challenging one, and the need to be more thoughtful of switch moving. This first officer was relatively new to the aircraft and the airline. Lesson learned.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: WHILE STILL ON APCH TO THE RWY, THE FLC INADVERTENTLY SWITCHED FREQS FROM LCL CTL TO GND CTL. LCL WAS UNABLE TO COMMUNICATE WITH THEM WHEN THEY LANDED. GND TOLD THEM TO CONTACT LCL SINCE THEY WERE STILL WITHIN LCL CTL'S AREA OF RESPONSIBILITY. NO OTHER PROBS ENCOUNTERED.
Narrative: I WAS FLYING THE ILS RWY 19L AT NIGHT, LOW LEVEL WINDSHEAR RPTED, LIGHT RAIN. ON SHORT FINAL, AFTER RECEIVING LNDG CLRNC, THE FO SOMEHOW CHANGED THE COM RADIO FREQ SELECTOR FROM TWR TO GND. AFTER LNDG, WE WERE HOLDING SHORT OF RWY 19R WHEN GND CTL TOLD US TO CONTACT TWR. I WAS SURPRISED WE WEREN'T STILL WITH TWR. ANYWAY, SFO TWR MADE IT CLR THEY WERE UNHAPPY WITH OUR UNTIMELY FREQ CHANGE, WHICH I COMPLETELY UNDERSTAND. FORTUNATELY, THERE WERE NO CONFLICTS OR PROBS CREATED. THE FO AND I HAD A TALK ON PRIORITIES DURING AN APCH, ESPECIALLY A CHALLENGING ONE, AND THE NEED TO BE MORE THOUGHTFUL OF SWITCH MOVING. THIS FO WAS RELATIVELY NEW TO THE ACFT AND THE AIRLINE. LESSON LEARNED.
