Narrative:
I was cleared to land on runway 28 at dpa. While I was on short final the tower advised of converging traffic on final for runway 19R. The final approach for runway 19R passes over runway 28. I told the tower that I would stay below the traffic. The tower did not recommend any evasive action and none was taken. The other aircraft flew an unexpectedly very low (dragging it in) approach. In my opinion, better separation could have been provided if the tower had told the other aircraft (C172) to make a higher approach and land long. This could have been easily accomplished, as runway 19R is 6700 ft long. If this should ever happen again, I would ask the tower to issue evasive clearance to one or both aircraft.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: ATCT CTLR ALLOWED 2 SMA ACFT AT DPA ARPT TO MAKE SIMULTANEOUS APCHS TO RWYS WITH XING FLT PATHS WITHOUT PROVIDING SEPARATION.
Narrative: I WAS CLRED TO LAND ON RWY 28 AT DPA. WHILE I WAS ON SHORT FINAL THE TWR ADVISED OF CONVERGING TFC ON FINAL FOR RWY 19R. THE FINAL APCH FOR RWY 19R PASSES OVER RWY 28. I TOLD THE TWR THAT I WOULD STAY BELOW THE TFC. THE TWR DID NOT RECOMMEND ANY EVASIVE ACTION AND NONE WAS TAKEN. THE OTHER ACFT FLEW AN UNEXPECTEDLY VERY LOW (DRAGGING IT IN) APCH. IN MY OPINION, BETTER SEPARATION COULD HAVE BEEN PROVIDED IF THE TWR HAD TOLD THE OTHER ACFT (C172) TO MAKE A HIGHER APCH AND LAND LONG. THIS COULD HAVE BEEN EASILY ACCOMPLISHED, AS RWY 19R IS 6700 FT LONG. IF THIS SHOULD EVER HAPPEN AGAIN, I WOULD ASK THE TWR TO ISSUE EVASIVE CLRNC TO ONE OR BOTH ACFT.
