Narrative:

On first leg to home base we carried 1 aircraft battery (hazmat) with proper paperwork. On next leg to las we had no paperwork because we were not supposed to have any hazmat. Upon arrival in las we were informed that the battery was still on board. So we carried hazmat 1 leg without proper paperwork. Corrective action: ground crew to be required to inform flight crew that hazmat is taken off. Contributing factors: ground crew is shorthanded, company pushing for on-time performance, ground crew in extended contract negotiations.
