Narrative:
On dec/sun/98, I departed abq on an IFR flight plan to las. As best as I recall, tower cleared me for takeoff as follows: 'bonanza xyz, fly heading 310 degrees after departure, cleared for takeoff runway 8.' I acknowledged, 'bonanza xyz, fly heading 310 degrees, cleared for takeoff runway 8.' after takeoff and before reaching the departure end of runway 8, I made a left turn to 310 degrees. Within 1 min of completing the turn to 310 degrees, tower called me saying they had told me not to initiate my turn to 310 degrees until, 'after crossing the departure end of runway 8.' I advised tower I had not understood such a restr in the takeoff clearance. Tower advised me the purpose was to avoid overflying a hospital in the area. There was no further communication between me and the tower on the subject. I was then handed off by tower to departure control. I understood no restr in the clearance I received regarding my turn to 310 degrees. My readback of the clearance did not acknowledge any restr. On dec/wed/98, I departed abq from runway 8. The tower controller on that date requested that I initiate a turn to 310 degrees as soon as possible in order to accommodate following jet traffic. My ground track on both days (dec/wed/98, and dec/sun/98) was identical.

Title: A BE35 PLT TURNS TO HIS DEP HEADING TOO SOON AFTER TKOF FROM ABQ AND GETS A REPRIMAND FROM THE TWR. RPTR DISPUTES THE CTLR'S ASSERTION ON THE EARLY TURN.
Narrative: ON DEC/SUN/98, I DEPARTED ABQ ON AN IFR FLT PLAN TO LAS. AS BEST AS I RECALL, TWR CLRED ME FOR TKOF AS FOLLOWS: 'BONANZA XYZ, FLY HDG 310 DEGS AFTER DEP, CLRED FOR TKOF RWY 8.' I ACKNOWLEDGED, 'BONANZA XYZ, FLY HDG 310 DEGS, CLRED FOR TKOF RWY 8.' AFTER TKOF AND BEFORE REACHING THE DEP END OF RWY 8, I MADE A L TURN TO 310 DEGS. WITHIN 1 MIN OF COMPLETING THE TURN TO 310 DEGS, TWR CALLED ME SAYING THEY HAD TOLD ME NOT TO INITIATE MY TURN TO 310 DEGS UNTIL, 'AFTER XING THE DEP END OF RWY 8.' I ADVISED TWR I HAD NOT UNDERSTOOD SUCH A RESTR IN THE TKOF CLRNC. TWR ADVISED ME THE PURPOSE WAS TO AVOID OVERFLYING A HOSPITAL IN THE AREA. THERE WAS NO FURTHER COM BTWN ME AND THE TWR ON THE SUBJECT. I WAS THEN HANDED OFF BY TWR TO DEP CTL. I UNDERSTOOD NO RESTR IN THE CLRNC I RECEIVED REGARDING MY TURN TO 310 DEGS. MY READBACK OF THE CLRNC DID NOT ACKNOWLEDGE ANY RESTR. ON DEC/WED/98, I DEPARTED ABQ FROM RWY 8. THE TWR CTLR ON THAT DATE REQUESTED THAT I INITIATE A TURN TO 310 DEGS ASAP IN ORDER TO ACCOMMODATE FOLLOWING JET TFC. MY GND TRACK ON BOTH DAYS (DEC/WED/98, AND DEC/SUN/98) WAS IDENTICAL.
