Narrative:

Level at 12000 ft, sea approach asked us if we had an air carrier Y flight in sight. We stated that air carrier Y was in sight and approach cleared us to 7000 ft, which we acknowledged. 2 mins later, approach asked us where we were descending to. We stated 7000 ft and approach told us that that altitude was for air carrier Y, but that we were cleared to 7000 ft anyway. We told the approach controller that we had read back 7000 ft. No conflict noted. We felt that the controller had forgotten that she had cleared us to 7000 ft.
