Narrative:
On turn to intercept visual approach runway 36L, saw MD80 turning in from opposite direction for same runway. We deviated to 020 degree heading and descended to 2100 ft to avoid traffic. Approach control subsequently changed our runway to runway 36R and the MD80 continued for the left runway. We maintained 020 degree heading and 2100 ft until we intercepted runway 36R centerline and approach slope.

Title: ACR CREW TAKES EVASIVE ACTION TO AVOID ACFT TURNING ONTO SAME FINAL APCH PATH IN TPA AIRSPACE.
Narrative: ON TURN TO INTERCEPT VISUAL APCH RWY 36L, SAW MD80 TURNING IN FROM OPPOSITE DIRECTION FOR SAME RWY. WE DEVIATED TO 020 DEG HDG AND DSNDED TO 2100 FT TO AVOID TFC. APCH CTL SUBSEQUENTLY CHANGED OUR RWY TO RWY 36R AND THE MD80 CONTINUED FOR THE L RWY. WE MAINTAINED 020 DEG HDG AND 2100 FT UNTIL WE INTERCEPTED RWY 36R CTRLINE AND APCH SLOPE.
