Narrative:
Around XX00 on feb/xa/99, we landed at slc and turned off at runway 35 onto the high speed taxiway to taxiway K. We contacted ground control and were informed to taxi to the ramp off of taxiway K (we stated our FBO as our destination). Taxiway K runs the length of the ramp area including the military base which adjoins the GA ramp. Having passed the military sign while we were taxiing, and thinking that the ground controller meant the intersection we were at (K5) we turned off the taxiway onto the ramp. We were then met by military guards who took our driver's license information down, called airport security and eventually sent us on our way to the FBO. I feel that since the airport security and military security said this happens 'often' that the signs should be more specific, and the ground controllers might also assist aircraft, especially at night, to alert them to that fact, that even though the ramp runs the entire length of the taxiway, you can't exit to the ramp off several txwys since it is essentially a military area. I also feel that we missed the military sign while doing our clearing checks and we were not totally familiar with the airport. The FAA airport safety person even stated that one of their own people had done the same thing.

Title: AN AIR TAXI ACFT TAXIES INTO A MIL FACILITY WHEN CLRED TO THEIR FBO AREA AT SLC, UT.
Narrative: AROUND XX00 ON FEB/XA/99, WE LANDED AT SLC AND TURNED OFF AT RWY 35 ONTO THE HIGH SPD TXWY TO TXWY K. WE CONTACTED GND CTL AND WERE INFORMED TO TAXI TO THE RAMP OFF OF TXWY K (WE STATED OUR FBO AS OUR DEST). TXWY K RUNS THE LENGTH OF THE RAMP AREA INCLUDING THE MIL BASE WHICH ADJOINS THE GA RAMP. HAVING PASSED THE MIL SIGN WHILE WE WERE TAXIING, AND THINKING THAT THE GND CTLR MEANT THE INTXN WE WERE AT (K5) WE TURNED OFF THE TXWY ONTO THE RAMP. WE WERE THEN MET BY MIL GUARDS WHO TOOK OUR DRIVER'S LICENSE INFO DOWN, CALLED ARPT SECURITY AND EVENTUALLY SENT US ON OUR WAY TO THE FBO. I FEEL THAT SINCE THE ARPT SECURITY AND MIL SECURITY SAID THIS HAPPENS 'OFTEN' THAT THE SIGNS SHOULD BE MORE SPECIFIC, AND THE GND CTLRS MIGHT ALSO ASSIST ACFT, ESPECIALLY AT NIGHT, TO ALERT THEM TO THAT FACT, THAT EVEN THOUGH THE RAMP RUNS THE ENTIRE LENGTH OF THE TXWY, YOU CAN'T EXIT TO THE RAMP OFF SEVERAL TXWYS SINCE IT IS ESSENTIALLY A MIL AREA. I ALSO FEEL THAT WE MISSED THE MIL SIGN WHILE DOING OUR CLRING CHKS AND WE WERE NOT TOTALLY FAMILIAR WITH THE ARPT. THE FAA ARPT SAFETY PERSON EVEN STATED THAT ONE OF THEIR OWN PEOPLE HAD DONE THE SAME THING.
