Narrative:
En route to arlington, tx (gky) on an IFR flight plan, being radar vectored to our destination airport (gky). Not knowing it at the time, we thought we had arlington in sight, but it was grand prairie (gpm). Dfw approach called the airport ahead 11 O'clock, 10 mi. We did not have the airport until 7 mi. We said we have the airport at 11 O'clock, 7 mi. Dfw center said affirmative. The controller cleared us for the visual approach. Flight made a downwind, base, final approach. Air carrier flight was still on the IFR flight plan and told the controller we would cancel on the ground. Dfw did not bring it to our attention when we were 3 mi out that we were headed to the wrong airport which is 2.5 - 3 mi north of our original destination (arlington, tx). Air carrier flight landed at grand prairie without incident. When we landed and taxied in, this is when we noticed we were at the wrong airport. We called dfw on the ground at grand prairie and canceled our IFR flight plan. We then asked if we could get an IFR to arlington, he said it was 3 mi south and you'll be good VFR below 2500 ft MSL because of dfw class B airspace. We then took off and landed at our original destination (gky) without incident.

Title: FLC OF A CARGO CASA C212 AVIOCAR ON IFR FLT PLAN LANDED AT THE WRONG ARPT DUE TO ARPT SIMILARITY AND CLOSE PROX.
Narrative: ENRTE TO ARLINGTON, TX (GKY) ON AN IFR FLT PLAN, BEING RADAR VECTORED TO OUR DEST ARPT (GKY). NOT KNOWING IT AT THE TIME, WE THOUGHT WE HAD ARLINGTON IN SIGHT, BUT IT WAS GRAND PRAIRIE (GPM). DFW APCH CALLED THE ARPT AHEAD 11 O'CLOCK, 10 MI. WE DID NOT HAVE THE ARPT UNTIL 7 MI. WE SAID WE HAVE THE ARPT AT 11 O'CLOCK, 7 MI. DFW CTR SAID AFFIRMATIVE. THE CTLR CLRED US FOR THE VISUAL APCH. FLT MADE A DOWNWIND, BASE, FINAL APCH. ACR FLT WAS STILL ON THE IFR FLT PLAN AND TOLD THE CTLR WE WOULD CANCEL ON THE GND. DFW DID NOT BRING IT TO OUR ATTN WHEN WE WERE 3 MI OUT THAT WE WERE HEADED TO THE WRONG ARPT WHICH IS 2.5 - 3 MI N OF OUR ORIGINAL DEST (ARLINGTON, TX). ACR FLT LANDED AT GRAND PRAIRIE WITHOUT INCIDENT. WHEN WE LANDED AND TAXIED IN, THIS IS WHEN WE NOTICED WE WERE AT THE WRONG ARPT. WE CALLED DFW ON THE GND AT GRAND PRAIRIE AND CANCELED OUR IFR FLT PLAN. WE THEN ASKED IF WE COULD GET AN IFR TO ARLINGTON, HE SAID IT WAS 3 MI S AND YOU'LL BE GOOD VFR BELOW 2500 FT MSL BECAUSE OF DFW CLASS B AIRSPACE. WE THEN TOOK OFF AND LANDED AT OUR ORIGINAL DEST (GKY) WITHOUT INCIDENT.
