Narrative:
After landing, the tower told us to hold short of runway 35L. We both heard clear to cross. First officer responded clear to cross and the tower told us to hold short. We stopped the aircraft and were holding short of the hold short line when tower told us that she saw us moving and cleared us to cross. The aircraft that was holding for takeoff was never cleared and no avoidance maneuvers were necessary. Readback and confirmation worked well to stop a communication error.

Narrative: AFTER LNDG, THE TWR TOLD US TO HOLD SHORT OF RWY 35L. WE BOTH HEARD CLR TO CROSS. FO RESPONDED CLR TO CROSS AND THE TWR TOLD US TO HOLD SHORT. WE STOPPED THE ACFT AND WERE HOLDING SHORT OF THE HOLD SHORT LINE WHEN TWR TOLD US THAT SHE SAW US MOVING AND CLRED US TO CROSS. THE ACFT THAT WAS HOLDING FOR TKOF WAS NEVER CLRED AND NO AVOIDANCE MANEUVERS WERE NECESSARY. READBACK AND CONFIRMATION WORKED WELL TO STOP A COM ERROR.
