Narrative:

Lga 8 with whitestone climb says, turn right on heading of 175 degrees (from runway 13) until lga 2.5 DME, then left turn to 040 degrees. During climb out, we went to about 4.5 DME before turning. Controller asked if we started our turn. Controller said, make right turn to 310 degrees. We had already started a left turn. We were told by the controller that we were not flying the correct departure. The controller was obviously irritated by our actions. No evasive action was made aware to us. Contributing factors: captain was working the radios and did not notice that I had overflown my mileage restr. It was only my first departure from lga. I had been online for just 2 days, as a new pilot. As a crew, we were expecting lga 8 departure with 'takeoff runway 4.' runway was changed and the new departure was unexpected, and not thoroughly reviewed. We asked the controller if we needed to call the facility. He replied, no.
