Narrative:
Location: 354 degree radial, 8 DME, 111.15 dfw approach control. VMC day, first officer leg, base leg for runway 36L heading 080 degrees descending to 3000 ft. Approach control assigns 010 degree heading to intercept localizer as we are approaching localizer course. 70 degree intercept heading causes hugh overshoot triggering a TA/RA for traffic on runway 35C. We have the traffic in sight the entire time. We descend on GS and correct the turn to avoid the traffic. Approach assigns a 30 degree heading change to reintercept localizer then clears us for visual approach. ATC poor vectoring created conflict with traffic on runway 35C which required aggressive aircraft handling to correct. There was no other traffic requiring tight sequencing.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: FLC OF A SUPER MD80 OVERSHOT FINAL IN VFR CONDITIONS CAUSING A POTENTIAL CONFLICT WITH A DC9 ON APCH TO AN ADJACENT RWY. APCH CTLR DELAYED TURNING THEM INBOUND DUE TO ANOTHER ACFT ON FINAL AHEAD.
Narrative: LOCATION: 354 DEG RADIAL, 8 DME, 111.15 DFW APCH CTL. VMC DAY, FO LEG, BASE LEG FOR RWY 36L HDG 080 DEGS DSNDING TO 3000 FT. APCH CTL ASSIGNS 010 DEG HDG TO INTERCEPT LOC AS WE ARE APCHING LOC COURSE. 70 DEG INTERCEPT HDG CAUSES HUGH OVERSHOOT TRIGGERING A TA/RA FOR TFC ON RWY 35C. WE HAVE THE TFC IN SIGHT THE ENTIRE TIME. WE DSND ON GS AND CORRECT THE TURN TO AVOID THE TFC. APCH ASSIGNS A 30 DEG HDG CHANGE TO REINTERCEPT LOC THEN CLRS US FOR VISUAL APCH. ATC POOR VECTORING CREATED CONFLICT WITH TFC ON RWY 35C WHICH REQUIRED AGGRESSIVE ACFT HANDLING TO CORRECT. THERE WAS NO OTHER TFC REQUIRING TIGHT SEQUENCING.
