Left wingtip came in contact with cargo container approximately 2 ft inboard of wingtip. Aircraft was stopped by captain even though marshaller continued to give instructions to pull forward. Flight safety was notified and investigated before aircraft was tugged in to gate. (Approximately 15 ft leading edge slat was only apparent damage.)
