Narrative:

On descent to dal on the dumpy 2 arrival, we were cleared to cross orvll at 9000 ft MSL. I entered 9000 ft into the FMC but inadvertently dropped the 9000 ft into the next fix (dumpy). I was manually flying just below the FMC derived flight path which put us high over orvll (estimated 12000 ft). The controller brought this to our attention and gave us a frequency change. I expedited the descent to 9000 ft. I put this altitude in the FMC before flight and we did not catch the error on descent.

Narrative: ON DSCNT TO DAL ON THE DUMPY 2 ARR, WE WERE CLRED TO CROSS ORVLL AT 9000 FT MSL. I ENTERED 9000 FT INTO THE FMC BUT INADVERTENTLY DROPPED THE 9000 FT INTO THE NEXT FIX (DUMPY). I WAS MANUALLY FLYING JUST BELOW THE FMC DERIVED FLT PATH WHICH PUT US HIGH OVER ORVLL (ESTIMATED 12000 FT). THE CTLR BROUGHT THIS TO OUR ATTN AND GAVE US A FREQ CHANGE.
