Narrative:
While cruising at FL270 we received a traffic alert followed by a command to descend. The first officer (the PF) disconnected the autoplt and followed the commands. ATC then advised us of the traffic and told us the traffic was leveling at FL280. ATC also told us there was traffic ahead at FL260. After we were clear of the FL280 traffic we climbed back up to FL273 before leveling at FL270. We never saw the traffic at FL280 or FL260.
