Narrative:
Parking area gate xx mexico city, MMMX. Cleared to taxi from taxiway C to taxiway B to hold short runway 5L. We turned on taxiway B from taxiway C. As we taxied down, the lights (blue) ahead were out but lights to the left were on. Captain went left thinking that was the way to go. After committed I told him 'you're on a closed runway, the light's still blue for taxi.' tower came back and asked us what we were doing. We explained about the lights and he told us to get back to the right on taxiway B. We asked controller 'is there a problem for our mistake?' he said 'no problem.' mexico city airport is lit very badly and very bad sign directions. I think they need to improve this. Maybe this wouldn't have happened.
