Narrative:
Following initial check-in, ZJX directed us to immediately turn left to a heading of 235 degrees. This heading would fly us directly into the center of the massive cumulo nimbus WX system. We told the center that we were unable to accept that clearance. At that point, ZJX directed us to squawk emergency frequency 7700. We complied. The controller then stated that we were entering a warning area and that he had no authority/authorized to control our flight in that area. I inquired as to who the controling agency was and specifically where the boundaries were relative to our aircraft. He replied that he did not know and did not want to argue about it. To have accepted the ZJX vector and flown the aircraft into the twring cumulo nimbus could in my opinion have seriously endangered the aircraft and passenger.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: A B767 FLC ENTERED RESTR AIRSPACE WITHOUT CLRNC NEAR PAM.
Narrative: FOLLOWING INITIAL CHK-IN, ZJX DIRECTED US TO IMMEDIATELY TURN L TO A HDG OF 235 DEGS. THIS HDG WOULD FLY US DIRECTLY INTO THE CTR OF THE MASSIVE CUMULO NIMBUS WX SYS. WE TOLD THE CTR THAT WE WERE UNABLE TO ACCEPT THAT CLRNC. AT THAT POINT, ZJX DIRECTED US TO SQUAWK EMER FREQ 7700. WE COMPLIED. THE CTLR THEN STATED THAT WE WERE ENTERING A WARNING AREA AND THAT HE HAD NO AUTH TO CTL OUR FLT IN THAT AREA. I INQUIRED AS TO WHO THE CTLING AGENCY WAS AND SPECIFICALLY WHERE THE BOUNDARIES WERE RELATIVE TO OUR ACFT. HE REPLIED THAT HE DID NOT KNOW AND DID NOT WANT TO ARGUE ABOUT IT. TO HAVE ACCEPTED THE ZJX VECTOR AND FLOWN THE ACFT INTO THE TWRING CUMULO NIMBUS COULD IN MY OPINION HAVE SERIOUSLY ENDANGERED THE ACFT AND PAX.
