Narrative:
Landed on runway 23R, exited at taxiway C. Ground advised to hold short of taxiway B. Taxiway B hold line and runway 23R hold line are at the same location. I advised PIC to clear the runway by taxiing past the runway 23R hold line. This placed us clear of runway 23R but technically on taxiway B, although no traffic was coming and we did not extend onto the parallel taxiway. Aircraft took off behind us on runway 23R. I believe if we had held short of taxiway B there would have been an operational error on the part of ATC and a loss of separation between us and the departing aircraft. We should have asked ground if we should stay on the runway side of the hold line as a way of confirming his intentions.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: INSTRUCTED TO HOLD SHORT OF PARALLEL TXWY AFTER LNDG, RPTR FINDS NOT ENOUGH ROOM BTWN RWY HOLD SHORT LINE AND THE TXWY TO HAVE HIS ACFT CLR OF BOTH RWY AND TXWY.
Narrative: LANDED ON RWY 23R, EXITED AT TXWY C. GND ADVISED TO HOLD SHORT OF TXWY B. TXWY B HOLD LINE AND RWY 23R HOLD LINE ARE AT THE SAME LOCATION. I ADVISED PIC TO CLR THE RWY BY TAXIING PAST THE RWY 23R HOLD LINE. THIS PLACED US CLR OF RWY 23R BUT TECHNICALLY ON TXWY B, ALTHOUGH NO TFC WAS COMING AND WE DID NOT EXTEND ONTO THE PARALLEL TXWY. ACFT TOOK OFF BEHIND US ON RWY 23R. I BELIEVE IF WE HAD HELD SHORT OF TXWY B THERE WOULD HAVE BEEN AN OPERROR ON THE PART OF ATC AND A LOSS OF SEPARATION BTWN US AND THE DEPARTING ACFT. WE SHOULD HAVE ASKED GND IF WE SHOULD STAY ON THE RWY SIDE OF THE HOLD LINE AS A WAY OF CONFIRMING HIS INTENTIONS.
