Narrative:
Sgh is located 15 NM from home airport, and well known to this reporter. Normally, the tower closes at XA30 but on this occasion it was open later by NOTAM. The WX was VFR, so no briefing was obtained for what is normally a local flight without any surprises. Thus, we did not get the NOTAM information. Normally, I call the tower prior to entering the class D airspace, but on this occasion, I was busy briefing my instrument student on the approach, and didn't get the call made prior to entering the class D airspace. In the future, I will either get a briefing to check NOTAMS, or be certain to contact the tower prior to entering the airspace.
