Narrative:
After landing, tower said to exit on the crossing runway or at the end. The captain told them we'd take end. We hurried to the end and exited on taxiway a, which unfortunately was not the end. It was also closed for construction. We did not realize our error until we were committed. After a few mins of holding, we continued around some cones to an open taxiway. Although the taxiway was notamed closed, there were no lighted cones or visual clues until we were clear of the runway. A better briefing on the arrival would have helped us. But we thought we were at the end of the runway and taxiway a looked open on the landing rollout. The next morning when we took off, it looked like large cones with flashing lights had been placed across the entrance to the taxiway to prevent other aircraft from making our mistake.

Title: AN ACR FLC FLYING B727 AT DCA TAXIED ONTO A CLOSED RWY AFTER LNDG.
Narrative: AFTER LNDG, TWR SAID TO EXIT ON THE XING RWY OR AT THE END. THE CAPT TOLD THEM WE'D TAKE END. WE HURRIED TO THE END AND EXITED ON TXWY A, WHICH UNFORTUNATELY WAS NOT THE END. IT WAS ALSO CLOSED FOR CONSTRUCTION. WE DID NOT REALIZE OUR ERROR UNTIL WE WERE COMMITTED. AFTER A FEW MINS OF HOLDING, WE CONTINUED AROUND SOME CONES TO AN OPEN TXWY. ALTHOUGH THE TXWY WAS NOTAMED CLOSED, THERE WERE NO LIGHTED CONES OR VISUAL CLUES UNTIL WE WERE CLR OF THE RWY. A BETTER BRIEFING ON THE ARR WOULD HAVE HELPED US. BUT WE THOUGHT WE WERE AT THE END OF THE RWY AND TXWY A LOOKED OPEN ON THE LNDG ROLLOUT. THE NEXT MORNING WHEN WE TOOK OFF, IT LOOKED LIKE LARGE CONES WITH FLASHING LIGHTS HAD BEEN PLACED ACROSS THE ENTRANCE TO THE TXWY TO PREVENT OTHER ACFT FROM MAKING OUR MISTAKE.
