Narrative:
While landing at den, instructed by approach to contact tower at FAF and cleared for a visual approach, given speed constraints and following traffic in front of us. Frequency given by approach, tower did not respond. Received light gun signals and landed normally. Finally contacted tower on rollout. Asked by tower if we saw the light signals and we said that we had. Good 'heads up' by tower saved us a go around. Frequency for tower was nonstandard and not on approach plate for that runway.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: WITH NO RESPONSE FROM TWR ON ASSIGNED FREQ FOR LNDG B727 LANDS WHEN TWR USES LIGHT SIGNALS.
Narrative: WHILE LNDG AT DEN, INSTRUCTED BY APCH TO CONTACT TWR AT FAF AND CLRED FOR A VISUAL APCH, GIVEN SPD CONSTRAINTS AND FOLLOWING TFC IN FRONT OF US. FREQ GIVEN BY APCH, TWR DID NOT RESPOND. RECEIVED LIGHT GUN SIGNALS AND LANDED NORMALLY. FINALLY CONTACTED TWR ON ROLLOUT. ASKED BY TWR IF WE SAW THE LIGHT SIGNALS AND WE SAID THAT WE HAD. GOOD 'HEADS UP' BY TWR SAVED US A GAR. FREQ FOR TWR WAS NONSTANDARD AND NOT ON APCH PLATE FOR THAT RWY.
