Narrative:
Situation: intentional aborted takeoff at low altitude for mei training purposes. Ip and sp (me) briefed sequence of events. Performed short field climb to approximately 100 ft AGL and retarded throttles to idle. Aircraft was in clean confign, gear down and flaps up. Human factors: did not believe rate of descent would be so great, was lacking in judgement to attempt the maneuver here, rather than at altitude. Had stall warning horn twice on descent, each time I reduced the aoa by lowering the nose a little. Tried to save a little airspeed for the flare, but did not get to flare much before we touched down. Was able to stop aircraft on centerline. We knew we had hit hard, and had trouble with directional control while taxiing. We shut down to inspect, but I did not notice any obvious damage. We restarted and took off for one more circuit of the pattern, then returned to vero beach. The remainder of the flight seemed otherwise normal. We squawked the aircraft for a hard landing when we returned. Believe that the lesson for others is to try this maneuver at altitude, not at the airport.

Title: PA44 INSTRUCTOR AND TRAINEE HAD HARD LNDG.
Narrative: SITUATION: INTENTIONAL ABORTED TKOF AT LOW ALT FOR MEI TRAINING PURPOSES. IP AND SP (ME) BRIEFED SEQUENCE OF EVENTS. PERFORMED SHORT FIELD CLB TO APPROX 100 FT AGL AND RETARDED THROTTLES TO IDLE. ACFT WAS IN CLEAN CONFIGN, GEAR DOWN AND FLAPS UP. HUMAN FACTORS: DID NOT BELIEVE RATE OF DSCNT WOULD BE SO GREAT, WAS LACKING IN JUDGEMENT TO ATTEMPT THE MANEUVER HERE, RATHER THAN AT ALT. HAD STALL WARNING HORN TWICE ON DSCNT, EACH TIME I REDUCED THE AOA BY LOWERING THE NOSE A LITTLE. TRIED TO SAVE A LITTLE AIRSPD FOR THE FLARE, BUT DID NOT GET TO FLARE MUCH BEFORE WE TOUCHED DOWN. WAS ABLE TO STOP ACFT ON CTRLINE. WE KNEW WE HAD HIT HARD, AND HAD TROUBLE WITH DIRECTIONAL CTL WHILE TAXIING. WE SHUT DOWN TO INSPECT, BUT I DID NOT NOTICE ANY OBVIOUS DAMAGE. WE RESTARTED AND TOOK OFF FOR ONE MORE CIRCUIT OF THE PATTERN, THEN RETURNED TO VERO BEACH. THE REMAINDER OF THE FLT SEEMED OTHERWISE NORMAL. WE SQUAWKED THE ACFT FOR A HARD LNDG WHEN WE RETURNED. BELIEVE THAT THE LESSON FOR OTHERS IS TO TRY THIS MANEUVER AT ALT, NOT AT THE ARPT.
