Narrative:
Inbound to mem as flight X, I was told to expect runway 36L. After switching to the final approach controller, I reported the airport in sight and received clearance for a visual approach to runway 36R. Shortly thereafter, I was established on final to runway 36R, approximately 8 mi from the landing threshold at 2000 ft MSL. An airbus, flight Y, was southwest of the airport on a left base to runway 36L. The controller advised me of the traffic, which I reported in sight. The controller also advised me the airbus would be making an approach to runway 36L. I noticed the airbus appear to fly through final approach to runway 36L and continue toward me. Due to his speed and rate of closure, I was forced to take evasive action to avoid a collision. The controller cleared me to take whatever action necessary to avoid collision and instructed the airbus crew to immediately rejoin final for runway 36L. Both aircraft switched to the tower and landed without further incident. I estimate the 2 airplanes were within 500-700 ft horizontal and 200-300 ft vertical. This occurred approximately 5 mi south of the runway 36R landing threshold.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: A C208 PLT TOOK EVASIVE ACTION AFTER AN AIRBUS FAILED TO MAINTAIN RWY ALIGNMENT ON APCH TO MEM.
Narrative: INBOUND TO MEM AS FLT X, I WAS TOLD TO EXPECT RWY 36L. AFTER SWITCHING TO THE FINAL APCH CTLR, I RPTED THE ARPT IN SIGHT AND RECEIVED CLRNC FOR A VISUAL APCH TO RWY 36R. SHORTLY THEREAFTER, I WAS ESTABLISHED ON FINAL TO RWY 36R, APPROX 8 MI FROM THE LNDG THRESHOLD AT 2000 FT MSL. AN AIRBUS, FLT Y, WAS SW OF THE ARPT ON A L BASE TO RWY 36L. THE CTLR ADVISED ME OF THE TFC, WHICH I RPTED IN SIGHT. THE CTLR ALSO ADVISED ME THE AIRBUS WOULD BE MAKING AN APCH TO RWY 36L. I NOTICED THE AIRBUS APPEAR TO FLY THROUGH FINAL APCH TO RWY 36L AND CONTINUE TOWARD ME. DUE TO HIS SPD AND RATE OF CLOSURE, I WAS FORCED TO TAKE EVASIVE ACTION TO AVOID A COLLISION. THE CTLR CLRED ME TO TAKE WHATEVER ACTION NECESSARY TO AVOID COLLISION AND INSTRUCTED THE AIRBUS CREW TO IMMEDIATELY REJOIN FINAL FOR RWY 36L. BOTH ACFT SWITCHED TO THE TWR AND LANDED WITHOUT FURTHER INCIDENT. I ESTIMATE THE 2 AIRPLANES WERE WITHIN 500-700 FT HORIZ AND 200-300 FT VERT. THIS OCCURRED APPROX 5 MI S OF THE RWY 36R LNDG THRESHOLD.
