Narrative:
Traffic moderate to heavy. Tailwind from 8000 ft to 3000 ft, then headwind of 10 KTS. Traffic was landing with an average of 3/4 mi over prescribed minima. Area supervisor comes over and stated 'you're wasting space, you're gonna hafta tighten up when we're in holding.' this is in lax arrs at sct where we were landing 65-72 aircraft an hour. His actions created a hazardous, disruptive, and totally inappropriate working situation. A supervisor should never chastise a controller on position. It's even worse when you're busy, IFR conditions and working as best you can. For the 2 hours in question, we ran 66 and 65 aircraft to this airport which equates to 22 or 23 aircraft each runway. At 140 KTS average speed, we had approximately 4 3/4 to 5 mi in-trail separation with at least 50% of the arrs, B757's and hvys of all types.
