Narrative:

Air carrier aircraft xyz #1 engine nose cowl was found with damage to inner acoustic liner by FAA inspector at the gate. We removed a serviceable nose cowl from air carrier aircraft abc and installed on aircraft xyz. We made an srm repair per srm (structural repair manual) xx-yy-zz and installed the repaired nose cowl on air carrier aircraft abc. I signed the work card as repaired nose cowl per B737 srm xx-yy-zz. The problem is that in the srm section, it was difficult to determine if the limits of repair were only 6 square inches or 75 square inches. There was no structural damage done to the acoustic panel -- only the acoustic screen mesh on top of the honeycomb panel was delaminated. I repaired (reattached) the screen in several places using 'resin mix B' per the srm section -- using 75 square inches as the limit of repair. I'm not sure which limits apply here and believe some clarification in the srm would prevent problems in the future.

Title: A B737-200 HAD THE #1 ENG INLET COWLING INNER ACOUSTICAL LINER REPAIRED PER THE STRUCTURAL REPAIR MANUAL BUT SOME CONFLICT EXISTS IN THE MANUAL ON THE REPAIR LIMITS FOR IDENTICAL REPAIRS.

Narrative: ACR ACFT XYZ #1 ENG NOSE COWL WAS FOUND WITH DAMAGE TO INNER ACOUSTIC LINER BY FAA INSPECTOR AT THE GATE. WE REMOVED A SERVICEABLE NOSE COWL FROM ACR ACFT ABC AND INSTALLED ON ACFT XYZ. WE MADE AN SRM REPAIR PER SRM (STRUCTURAL REPAIR MANUAL) XX-YY-ZZ AND INSTALLED THE REPAIRED NOSE COWL ON ACR ACFT ABC. I SIGNED THE WORK CARD AS REPAIRED NOSE COWL PER B737 SRM XX-YY-ZZ. THE PROB IS THAT IN THE SRM SECTION, IT WAS DIFFICULT TO DETERMINE IF THE LIMITS OF REPAIR WERE ONLY 6 SQUARE INCHES OR 75 SQUARE INCHES. I'M NOT SURE WHICH LIMITS APPLY HERE AND BELIEVE SOME CLARIFICATION IN THE SRM WOULD PREVENT PROBS IN THE FUTURE.
