Narrative:
While taxiing the aircraft to gate, we observed the marshallers were not in place. At that time we stopped the aircraft short of the entrance of the gate area. We called ramp control and asked for marshallers at our gate. A short time later we observed the marshaller in place and continued to taxi per the marshaller's instructions at a slow speed. Everything seemed normal and we stopped at the marshaller's signal. At the exact point at which the aircraft stopped we heard an unusual noise. As we exited the aircraft. We observed several ramp personnel around the #1 engine. We tried to re-enter the jetway to see what was wrong. However, the jetway was locked because of customs. We called maintenance control to advise them of possible aircraft damage and to make sure there was an entry into the aircraft log.
