Narrative:
Just prior to our turn at pdz VOR on pdz 3 arrival, lax approach changed our runway from runway 25L to runway 24R. While trying to reprogram FMC to new runway with arrival, we changed to VOR mode so that we could make the turn. While concentrating on making the turn and intercepting the radial along with dscnts required, and reprogramming the FMC, we flew through the localizer for runway 24R. Approach gave us vectors back and we landed normally. Recommend approach give aircraft landing runway sooner so FMC aircraft have time to program computer during busy arrival portion of flight. During approach phase with FMC aircraft in high density area it's easier at times if we didn't have the FMC, because of quick reprogramming required.

Title: FLC OF AN LGT FAILED TO INTERCEPT AMENDED STAR ARR TRACK AFTER ATC CHANGED THEIR RWY FROM RWY 25L TO RWY 24R AT LAX.
Narrative: JUST PRIOR TO OUR TURN AT PDZ VOR ON PDZ 3 ARR, LAX APCH CHANGED OUR RWY FROM RWY 25L TO RWY 24R. WHILE TRYING TO REPROGRAM FMC TO NEW RWY WITH ARR, WE CHANGED TO VOR MODE SO THAT WE COULD MAKE THE TURN. WHILE CONCENTRATING ON MAKING THE TURN AND INTERCEPTING THE RADIAL ALONG WITH DSCNTS REQUIRED, AND REPROGRAMMING THE FMC, WE FLEW THROUGH THE LOC FOR RWY 24R. APCH GAVE US VECTORS BACK AND WE LANDED NORMALLY. RECOMMEND APCH GIVE ACFT LNDG RWY SOONER SO FMC ACFT HAVE TIME TO PROGRAM COMPUTER DURING BUSY ARR PORTION OF FLT. DURING APCH PHASE WITH FMC ACFT IN HIGH DENSITY AREA IT'S EASIER AT TIMES IF WE DIDN'T HAVE THE FMC, BECAUSE OF QUICK REPROGRAMMING REQUIRED.
