Narrative:
On aug/xa/99 I replaced some parts on a wing flap screw jack transmission on a B727-200. I was assured by my lead mechanic and other mechanics that this was a standard procedure. The parts I replaced were taken from a svcable unit and installed to repair a leak. The parts are an input shaft, cover plate and seal. I have since been informed from my management that this is not a line replaceable unit. I was also told that this has occurred several times before and no one knew it was wrong until we were advised by the shop that repairs this component.
