Narrative:
Landed on runway 24R and held short of runway 24L per tower instructions. When cleared by tower, taxied south on taxiway aa and contacted ground control on the north complex frequency. Did not switch to the south complex ground control frequency until instructed to do so by the north complex controller as we entered taxiway C. The south complex controller instructed us to hold our position, determined our parking location, then cleared us to continue taxiing on assigned routing and instructed us to contact ATC at phone number XXX-XXXX upon reaching our parking location. At no time did our aircraft cause an impediment to the movement of other aircraft or an unsafe condition. The event was caused primarily by failure to change to the south complex ground control frequency while on taxiway aa. The depictions on the airport diagram in the commercial pubs could be improved by making the annotation at the mid-point of taxiway aa and the 2 midfield txwys that connect the north and south complexes more directive by labeling them 'ground frequency changeover point' as opposed to the current 'check point' designation.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: FLC OF A B747-200 FAILED TO CONTACT THE LAX S COMPLEX GND CTLR WHEN TAXIING S AFTER LNDG ON THE N COMPLEX RWY 24R AND WERE SO ADVISED TO DO SO BY THE N COMPLEX GND CTLR.
Narrative: LANDED ON RWY 24R AND HELD SHORT OF RWY 24L PER TWR INSTRUCTIONS. WHEN CLRED BY TWR, TAXIED S ON TXWY AA AND CONTACTED GND CTL ON THE N COMPLEX FREQ. DID NOT SWITCH TO THE S COMPLEX GND CTL FREQ UNTIL INSTRUCTED TO DO SO BY THE N COMPLEX CTLR AS WE ENTERED TXWY C. THE S COMPLEX CTLR INSTRUCTED US TO HOLD OUR POS, DETERMINED OUR PARKING LOCATION, THEN CLRED US TO CONTINUE TAXIING ON ASSIGNED ROUTING AND INSTRUCTED US TO CONTACT ATC AT PHONE NUMBER XXX-XXXX UPON REACHING OUR PARKING LOCATION. AT NO TIME DID OUR ACFT CAUSE AN IMPEDIMENT TO THE MOVEMENT OF OTHER ACFT OR AN UNSAFE CONDITION. THE EVENT WAS CAUSED PRIMARILY BY FAILURE TO CHANGE TO THE S COMPLEX GND CTL FREQ WHILE ON TXWY AA. THE DEPICTIONS ON THE ARPT DIAGRAM IN THE COMMERCIAL PUBS COULD BE IMPROVED BY MAKING THE ANNOTATION AT THE MID-POINT OF TXWY AA AND THE 2 MIDFIELD TXWYS THAT CONNECT THE N AND S COMPLEXES MORE DIRECTIVE BY LABELING THEM 'GND FREQ CHANGEOVER POINT' AS OPPOSED TO THE CURRENT 'CHK POINT' DESIGNATION.
