Narrative:

In jul/97, air carrier received 2 each #8 discs from P&west along with the data card. I processed the discs and made them svcable and assigned them to models to be built. When the first model came back to the shop for routine maintenance, I received the disc and discovered that the part number on the disc didn't match the part number on the data card. I got the data card and found that the serial number matched the disc but the part number didn't. The part number on the disc was wzzxx which is for a jt8d219. The part number on the data card was wzzxy which is for a jt8d15a. Since the disc had been flying in a -15A, I contacted engineering for assistance or advice. Since there was 2 each discs listed on the same data card, we found where the other disc was and had the engine borescoped last night (sep/xa/99) and found the same error. We pulled the engine to remove the disc. These discs are virtually the same except for the air holes. At the time this happened, I was the only one checking new parts. This includes all jt8d219-15-15A compressor and turbine discs. Since this happened, we have made some changes. Now the material planners are unboxing and checking part numbers and serial numbers against the data card, then giving the parts to the inspector to rechk and make svcable. The mechanics are also checking all part numbers and serial numbers as part of their prebuild inspection.

Title: AN ENG MANUFACTURER SHIPPED 2 8TH STAGE COMPRESSOR DISCS TO AN ACR ENG BUILDUP SHOP WITH THE DISC DATA CARD IN ERROR ALLOWING DISC INSTALLATION IN THE WRONG ENGS.

NOW THE MATERIAL PLANNERS ARE UNBOXING AND CHKING PART NUMBERS AND SERIAL NUMBERS AGAINST THE DATA CARD, THEN GIVING THE PARTS TO THE INSPECTOR TO RECHK AND MAKE SVCABLE. THE MECHS ARE ALSO CHKING ALL PART NUMBERS AND SERIAL NUMBERS AS PART OF THEIR PREBUILD INSPECTION.
