Narrative:
Flight crew scheduling notified me of a reserve trip on sep/xa/99. I accepted the trip and then compared the trip to my previous week's flying. It indicated that I would possibly be flying 7 straight days with a 24 hour in 7 day legal break. I then contacted crew scheduling and questioned the legality of this assignment. They stated that their computer showed that this was a legal assignment. I reported for duty at XA00Z and proceeded to the aircraft with the crew. The company notified the crew that there would be a delay due to aircraft swap. We departed sdf at XB24Z -- 1 hour 24 mins late. Approximately 1 hour into our flight, the company notified me through ACARS that I was now illegal (due to lack of 24 hours off in 7 days) and to return immediately to my home base (sdf). After questioning their decision, I decided to comply and returned to the takeoff airport (sdf) arriving at XE31Z -- 31 mins into my legal 24 hour break.
