Narrative:
Was at fwa joining mizar 3 STAR. First officer was at the controls. Captain and first officer were discussing a maintenance write-up. First officer missed the turn to intercept the 039 degree radial fwa. ZAU called and noted we had missed the turn. We were about 10 NM north of fwa in the turn, maximum deviation from course. First officer immediately corrected back to the 039 degree radial. Center advised that there was no conflicting traffic. A hydraulic quantity write-up and another maintenance write-up were allowed to distract the crew from proper navigation.

Title: FO OF A DC9 OVERSHOT TURN ON STAR ARR DUE TO BEING DISTR BY A MAINT WRITE-UP.
Narrative: WAS AT FWA JOINING MIZAR 3 STAR. FO WAS AT THE CTLS. CAPT AND FO WERE DISCUSSING A MAINT WRITE-UP. FO MISSED THE TURN TO INTERCEPT THE 039 DEG RADIAL FWA. ZAU CALLED AND NOTED WE HAD MISSED THE TURN. WE WERE ABOUT 10 NM N OF FWA IN THE TURN, MAX DEV FROM COURSE. FO IMMEDIATELY CORRECTED BACK TO THE 039 DEG RADIAL. CTR ADVISED THAT THERE WAS NO CONFLICTING TFC. A HYD QUANTITY WRITE-UP AND ANOTHER MAINT WRITE-UP WERE ALLOWED TO DISTRACT THE CREW FROM PROPER NAV.
