Narrative:
Low tire pressure observed on push out. During push out left wing walker thought #1 main gear tire looked low on pressure. When stopped I had them check tire pressure gauge. They reported pressure read 140 psi. I then requested they tow us back into the gate, called maintenance, tire was replaced. This is the captain reporting. The first officer who did the walkaround is usually very thorough, careful, and conscientious. This highlights the need for all of us when doing the walkaround to put on an attitude of curiosity, ie, who is the ramp crew, and especially the left wing walker. Supplemental information from acn 450140: during pushback, ground crew reported low tire pressure 140 psi. I did not find this in my preflight 35 mins before. Tire was changed and flight continued 1 1/2 hour late. I may have missed this in the preflight, expecting and seeing 190 psi instead of 140 psi. In future, I will make sure the entire arc of the gauge is clean and visible and will look for the abnormal indication instead of the normal.

Title: MD80 HAD LOW TIRE PRESSURE ON DEP FROM GATE.
Narrative: LOW TIRE PRESSURE OBSERVED ON PUSH OUT. DURING PUSH OUT L WING WALKER THOUGHT #1 MAIN GEAR TIRE LOOKED LOW ON PRESSURE. WHEN STOPPED I HAD THEM CHK TIRE PRESSURE GAUGE. THEY RPTED PRESSURE READ 140 PSI. I THEN REQUESTED THEY TOW US BACK INTO THE GATE, CALLED MAINT, TIRE WAS REPLACED. THIS IS THE CAPT RPTING. THE FO WHO DID THE WALKAROUND IS USUALLY VERY THOROUGH, CAREFUL, AND CONSCIENTIOUS. THIS HIGHLIGHTS THE NEED FOR ALL OF US WHEN DOING THE WALKAROUND TO PUT ON AN ATTITUDE OF CURIOSITY, IE, WHO IS THE RAMP CREW, AND ESPECIALLY THE L WING WALKER. SUPPLEMENTAL INFO FROM ACN 450140: DURING PUSHBACK, GND CREW RPTED LOW TIRE PRESSURE 140 PSI. I DID NOT FIND THIS IN MY PREFLT 35 MINS BEFORE. TIRE WAS CHANGED AND FLT CONTINUED 1 1/2 HR LATE. I MAY HAVE MISSED THIS IN THE PREFLT, EXPECTING AND SEEING 190 PSI INSTEAD OF 140 PSI. IN FUTURE, I WILL MAKE SURE THE ENTIRE ARC OF THE GAUGE IS CLEAN AND VISIBLE AND WILL LOOK FOR THE ABNORMAL INDICATION INSTEAD OF THE NORMAL.
