Narrative:
While departing mkc with a first lesson private student with the student at the controls, we climbed above the 4000 ft lower limit of the mci class B airspace. We were climbing to get to smooth air and I believed we were south of the 4000 ft limit. I was told by the mke tower controller we were in the class B airspace and would be for another 2 mi. We then quickly descended below 4000 ft and continued south. There were no other calls from ATC and no other aircraft in the area.
