Narrative:

Before departure called ASOS at mhr ASOS at XA00Z stated runway 22L closed after XB00 local. Arrived XC35 local. Men and equipment on runway 22L on approach observed on runway. On rollout on runway 22R observed 'X' on end of runway 22R. Not seen from air. Not seen till after landing. I believe the workers forgot to remove the 'X.' called flight service after landing. He told me there were no NOTAMS mhr for runway closures. Subsequent aircraft also landed on runway 22R unable to see 'X' until on runway. To prevent recurrence use larger 'X' on runway. See to it NOTAMS are filed with FSS. Word of mouth is no way to run an airport.
