Narrative:
Set takeoff power, runway 27 san. Approximately 80 KTS, loud bang. Lost left engine, aborted takeoff, taxied clear of runway. Called for fire truck. Left engine billowing smoke. Make preparation to evacuate/evacuation right side of aircraft. Fire trucks arrived, controled fire contained in engine cowl. Never got a fire warning in cockpit. Elected not to evacuate/evacuation passenger. After everything secured, right engine was restarted and aircraft taxied back to gate with no further incident.

Title: FLC OF A B757 ABORTED TKOF AFTER THE L ENG WAS HEARD MAKING A LOUD AND OMITTING HVY SMOKE.
Narrative: SET TKOF PWR, RWY 27 SAN. APPROX 80 KTS, LOUD BANG. LOST L ENG, ABORTED TKOF, TAXIED CLR OF RWY. CALLED FOR FIRE TRUCK. L ENG BILLOWING SMOKE. MAKE PREPARATION TO EVAC R SIDE OF ACFT. FIRE TRUCKS ARRIVED, CTLED FIRE CONTAINED IN ENG COWL. NEVER GOT A FIRE WARNING IN COCKPIT. ELECTED NOT TO EVAC PAX. AFTER EVERYTHING SECURED, R ENG WAS RESTARTED AND ACFT TAXIED BACK TO GATE WITH NO FURTHER INCIDENT.
