Narrative:
The inbound crew put overhead leading edge flap #4 light on with disagreement light on forward panel on. The mechanic, as did I, interpreted it to be a #4 leading edge slat and deferred it. We flew the next leg before it was determined that it was not a deferrable item. The preamble of MEL states leading edge flaps and slats helped lead to the error.

Narrative: THE INBOUND CREW PUT OVERHEAD LEADING EDGE FLAP #4 LIGHT ON WITH DISAGREEMENT LIGHT ON FORWARD PANEL ON. THE MECH, AS DID I, INTERPRETED IT TO BE A #4 LEADING EDGE SLAT AND DEFERRED IT.
