Narrative:
I had requested permission from the microphone (crystal) control tower to transition their air traffic area at 2600 ft from northwest to southeast. Permission was granted and I was asked to identify once and the tower confirmed my altitude as per my altimeter. As I was transitioning, the tower kept me and other traffic advised once referring to an 'unknown' aircraft that was probably not aircraft #2. The controller asked me to stay south of runway 32. As I was just abeam of the center (on a north/south line) of the airport, the controller advised me of a float plane at 2200 ft at approximately my 10 O'clock position. I responded that I had that aircraft in sight and at that time I also noticed a single engine piper type propeller aircraft approaching my aircraft from about 11 O'clock position and at what appeared to be my altitude. It seemed to be approaching from slightly east of north. I dived sharply as I considered the very strong possibility that we would soon collide. I advised the controller that I had just 'almost been hit' by another aircraft and the controller responded that 'that aircraft' was controled by (the) minneapolis or international controller or being 'worked' by 'minneapolis.' I returned to 2600 ft MSL and continued my course. No other description of aircraft #2.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: AN ACR COUPE PVT PLT DSNDS TO AVOID XING TFC NEAR MIC ARPT, MN.
Narrative: I HAD REQUESTED PERMISSION FROM THE MIC (CRYSTAL) CTL TWR TO TRANSITION THEIR ATA AT 2600 FT FROM NW TO SE. PERMISSION WAS GRANTED AND I WAS ASKED TO IDENT ONCE AND THE TWR CONFIRMED MY ALT AS PER MY ALTIMETER. AS I WAS TRANSITIONING, THE TWR KEPT ME AND OTHER TFC ADVISED ONCE REFERRING TO AN 'UNKNOWN' ACFT THAT WAS PROBABLY NOT ACFT #2. THE CTLR ASKED ME TO STAY S OF RWY 32. AS I WAS JUST ABEAM OF THE CTR (ON A N/S LINE) OF THE ARPT, THE CTLR ADVISED ME OF A FLOAT PLANE AT 2200 FT AT APPROX MY 10 O'CLOCK POS. I RESPONDED THAT I HAD THAT ACFT IN SIGHT AND AT THAT TIME I ALSO NOTICED A SINGLE ENG PIPER TYPE PROP ACFT APCHING MY ACFT FROM ABOUT 11 O'CLOCK POS AND AT WHAT APPEARED TO BE MY ALT. IT SEEMED TO BE APCHING FROM SLIGHTLY E OF N. I DIVED SHARPLY AS I CONSIDERED THE VERY STRONG POSSIBILITY THAT WE WOULD SOON COLLIDE. I ADVISED THE CTLR THAT I HAD JUST 'ALMOST BEEN HIT' BY ANOTHER ACFT AND THE CTLR RESPONDED THAT 'THAT ACFT' WAS CTLED BY (THE) MINNEAPOLIS OR INTL CTLR OR BEING 'WORKED' BY 'MINNEAPOLIS.' I RETURNED TO 2600 FT MSL AND CONTINUED MY COURSE. NO OTHER DESCRIPTION OF ACFT #2.
