Narrative:
On IFR approach to narita, controller issued runway change with different arrival than was on ATIS. There was confusion on the transition that the controller wanted us to fly. We anticipated a clearance from venus intersection for runway 16 and were given a late clearance from cosmos intersection for runway 16. Before we could reload the transition in the FMS, the controller started vectoring us as he recognized we were not going where he wanted us to go. Because of the runway change, most aircraft were on vectors in order to comply with the controller's directions.

Title: AN MD11 FLC WERE UNABLE TO LOAD THE FMS FOR A CHANGED ARR TRANSITION AND WERE GIVEN VECTORS INTO NRT, FO.
Narrative: ON IFR APCH TO NARITA, CTLR ISSUED RWY CHANGE WITH DIFFERENT ARR THAN WAS ON ATIS. THERE WAS CONFUSION ON THE TRANSITION THAT THE CTLR WANTED US TO FLY. WE ANTICIPATED A CLRNC FROM VENUS INTXN FOR RWY 16 AND WERE GIVEN A LATE CLRNC FROM COSMOS INTXN FOR RWY 16. BEFORE WE COULD RELOAD THE TRANSITION IN THE FMS, THE CTLR STARTED VECTORING US AS HE RECOGNIZED WE WERE NOT GOING WHERE HE WANTED US TO GO. BECAUSE OF THE RWY CHANGE, MOST ACFT WERE ON VECTORS IN ORDER TO COMPLY WITH THE CTLR'S DIRECTIONS.
